AP Language and Composition


Advanced Placement Language and Composition is a college-level course that carries with it the five-point A.  Students complete two to five hours of homework each week and:  read nonfiction prose from a variety of periods, disciplines, and contexts; write in a variety of forms for different audiences and purposes; learn to analyze style and apply that analysis to nonfiction prose; complete a research paper according to MLA guidelines; study vocabulary; review grammar, usage, and mechanics of compositions; prepare for the APLAC exam that is administered in May; and complete a summer project including reading six assigned novels and viewing six  assigned films.
Prerequisite: Application process including standardized test scores, teacher recommendation, and an assigned essay.
