A.Y.A.A. (Arkansas Young Artist Association)

Arkansas Young Artists Association is a state-wide organization that promotes art among Arkansas art students.  We are the local chapter of that club.  Our club will attend the convention in the spring.  At the convention, students can bring artwork to compete for medals, which are given in many categories.  There is also an on-site competition.  For that, students are given a drawing challenge when they arrive, and they produce artworks on the spot according to those directions. But even more important than competing, our students are exposed to many inspiring works from all over the state, and they can meet other artists

Our local club also does fundraising to help pay for the convention and to take students on an art-related trip.  Last year we traveled to Kansas City and visited the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Kemper Museum, the Kansas City Art Institute, and a number of private galleries as part of the "First Fridays"? gallery walk.

The state dues are $15.  The rest of the expenses we try to raise through fundraisers.  This year we plan to sell note cards of students' works, make buttons to sell, and hold an "Art-A-Thon" event.

Students must be currently enrolled in an art class, or have previously taken one at SHS.   See one of the sponsors to join up.

They usually meet Thursdays after school until about 5:15.  Some students can't make it at that time, so we ask them to keep current through other students, and to remain involved with our activities.  Those who have paid their dues and were given a purple card are welcome to meet during the appropriate activity periods also.  We meet in Mrs. Caraway's room: 805 (near the band room).

The purposes of AYAA are: 1) to provide communication between Arkansas' schools, 2) to motivate and stimulate creativity through fellowship and art activities, and 3) encourage and promote student art in Arkansas.
