Mathematics
Four credits of math are required for each student and must be completed during the regular school year in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades (one per year). *Note: All seniors must be enrolled in a math class during their senior year.
43100A/43100B Geometry--SHS, HBHS
10 - 1 year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Mastery of modules A, B, C & D in Alg. I.
Students who require more time may be placed in a block class.
Students will be required to take an End of Course Geometry exam.
Geometry is a course that follows Algebra I. Students study the basic geometric figures while developing an understanding of the formal structure and proof of geometry. This course helps students develop skills in logical thinking needed in higher mathematics.
431002 Geometry--HBHS
10 - 1 year, 1 credit
Open to ELL Levels 1-3
Geometry is a course that follows Algebra I. Students study the basic geometric figures while developing an understanding of the formal structure and proof of geometry. This course helps students develop skills in logical thinking needed in higher mathematics.
431003/431004 Advanced Geometry--SHS, HBHS
HBHS Prerequisite: Advanced Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 and teacher recommendation
SHS Prerequisite: 10th grade only and teacher recommendation only
This course is only open to students that have taken Algebra II or Advanced Algebra II and have not taken Geometry. Students are required to take the End of Course Geometry exam at the end of the year.
This course covers all topics in Geometry with additional emphasis on special topics from Advanced Algebra II.
43200A/43200B Algebra II--SHS, HBHS
10, 11, 12 - 1 year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Mastery of modules A, B, C & D in Algebra I.
This course equips college-bound students with a working knowledge of the fundamentals needed for a college algebra course. However, Advanced Algebra II is strongly recommended for students planning to specialize in fields requiring a mathematical background. Algebra II does not serve as a prerequisite for Trigonometry.
432003/432004 Advanced Algebra II--SHS, HBHS
11- 1 year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: A in Algebra I and Geometry with teacher recommendation
This course is an in-depth study of the algebra needed for higher mathematics such as Trigonometry and AP Calculus. Advanced Algebra II is strongly recommended for students who will specialize in fields such as science, engineering, or mathematics.
43300A/43300B Pre-Calculus with Trigonometry--SHS, HBHS
11, 12 - 1 year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry, Advanced Algebra II, and teacher recommendation. Algebra II does not meet this requirement.
This course is for students interested in continuing their study of mathematics or related fields. Emphasis is on the study of trigonometric functions, analytic geometry, some higher algebraic skills, and other related topics.
43903A/43903B Algebraic Connections--SHS, HBHS
11, 12 - 1 year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Algebra I and Geometry.
(Not a college preparatory class)
Algebraic Connections builds and enlarges on previously taught Algebra I and Geometry concepts. Students solve problems based on real-world situations. This course is not a substitute for a requirement for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship.
43907A/43907B Algebra III--SHS, HBHS
11,12 - 1 year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry, and A or B in Algebra II, or a C in Algebra II with teacher recommendation.
The purpose is to prepare college-bound students for non-mathematical majors in college. Emphasis is on improving and extending algebraic skills. This course will provide the student with a working knowledge of algebra for College Algebra.
53404A/53404B AP Calculus--SHS, HBHS
12 - 1 year, 1 credit
SHS Prerequisites: Algebra I, Geometry, Advanced Algebra II, Precalculus with Trigonometry, and teacher recommendation.
HBHS Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation
This course covers all topics in Calculus and is for students who meet the qualifications and who wish to obtain credit or appropriate placement in participating colleges by scoring sufficiently high on the national Advanced Placement exam. All students are required to have a graphing calculator and are expected to take the AP exam.
43905A/43905B Transition to College Math--SHS, HBHS
12 - 1 year, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra 2
This class is open only to seniors.
(Teacher Recommendation only---HBHS)
Transition to College Math builds on previous courses in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 and uses investigative mathematics in the application of mathematics in the real world. This course may be completed to satisfy the fourth year mathematics required for unconditional admission to Arkansas’ colleges and universities and meet the requirements for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Program. (This is a graphing calculator based course.)
53903A/53903B AP Statistics--SHS, HBHS
11, 12 - 1 year 1 credit
Prerequisite: Advanced Algebra II or Algebra II with an A and teacher recommendation.
AP Statistics is an introduction to the most common statistical concepts including every aspect of data collection, analysis and interpretation. These techniques are used in a wide variety of fields of study. All students are required to have a graphing calculator and are expected to take the AP exam.
53990A College Algebra Concurrent Credit--SHS, HBHS
See Northwest Arkansas Community College section.)
53990F Finite Mathematics Concurrent Credit--SHS, HBHS
