Senior Year College Timetable

August/September

  •     Check with your counselor to be sure you are enrolled in enough credits to graduate.

  •     Register for ACT/SAT tests if necessary.

  •     Work on your senior résumé forms to be used for recommendations.

  •     Visit college representatives.

  •     If you have not narrowed your college choices to a few schools do this and write for applications.

  •     If your applications require essays-get started. Choose an English teacher to help critique your work.

  •     Pick up College Tips in the Counseling Center.

October
  •    Complete essays and keep a copy for yourself.
  •     Plan college visits.
  •     Give recommendation forms to teachers and counselors writing recommendation letters for you.
  •     Decide on early decision or early action.
  •     Take the October ACT exam.
  •     Check new College Tips and college/career bulletin boards.
  •     Request financial aid information and/or applications from colleges.
  •     Finish your senior résumé.
November
  •     November 1st is a deadline for many early decision applications.
  •     Register for December ACT if necessary.
  •     Check new College Tips and college/career bulletin boards.
  •     Begin gathering family income information for tax preparation and completion of financial aid forms.
December
  •     Pick up financial aid forms - FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
  •     Check to be sure your applications and recommendations have all been completed and mailed.
  •     December ACT Test.
  •     Check new College Tips and college/career bulletin boards for visiting college representatives and deadlines.
  •     Be sure you have compiled all family financial information to complete financial aid forms.
January
  •     Make sure all Mid-Year Grade reports are mailed if your college requests these.
  •     Mail the FAFSA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after January 1
  •     Write thank you notes for recommendations and interviews.
  •     Register, if necessary, for the February ACT.
  •     Check new College Tips and college/career bulletin boards for scholarship deadlines.
  •     Check with your counselor to be sure you are meeting all graduation requirements.
February
  •     Take February ACT if needed.
  •     Check new College Tips and college/career bulletin boards for scholarship deadlines.
  •     Make sure all financial aid applications are mailed.
  •     Check on all scholarship deadlines.
March
  •     Check dates for Advanced Placement tests, if needed.
  •      Check new College Tips and college/career bulletin boards for scholarship deadlines.
  •     Make certain that all scholarships are completed and mailed.
April
  •     Return local scholarships when completed.
  •     Respond promptly - in writing - for action on admission, scholarship, and financial aid offers.

May

  •     Turn in a list of all scholarship offers to the counseling center.
               Include merit, need based, and athletic scholarships and their total value if renewable.

  •     Attend Senior Practice, Senior Assembly, and Graduation.

  •     Sign up in the Counseling Center for your final transcript to be mailed to all colleges of your choice.

  •     Return all books, equipment, and uniforms to school personnel, pay any fines, and clear any holds on your
              records or diploma.
