School Procedure: Absences |
|
ABSENCES: PARENT NOTIFICATION 1. The student's parent/guardian shall be notified as required by law and as necessary. As a minimum this notification shall occur when the student has accumulated four(4), eight(8), and eleven(11) absences per semester. 2. The notice shall indicate to the parent the classes affected, the appeal process, and student options such as Alternative Learning Center. ABSENCES: STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Students who accumulate more than ten (10) absences in a class for the semester will not be eligible for credit in that class and will receive a grade of "F" for the semester. Students may make-up the excessive absences through the "Saturday School" program to regain credit status. It is the student's responsibility to register for Saturday School. 2. The student must remain in the class in which credit will be denied and do the assigned work for the remainder of the semester unless admitted to an alternative learning program. 3. A student wishing to make up his or her excessive absences in "Saturday School" must apply to do so through their grade appropriate principal. The principal will determine eligibility and guidelines for make-up. APPEAL TO REINSTATE CREDIT 1. Students may appeal their denial of credit to the Attendance Committee at the high school. The Attendance Committee will operate under the guidelines developed and approved by the high school principal. 2. In the event that a student has extenuating circumstances concerning his/her absences, the assistant principal for attendance may determine to justify absences that are not covered under the Excused Absence List. |
